If you are bored with the usual red and green traditional Christmas decorations, then a winter wonderland theme is the perfect way to freshen up home decor without being too niche or undergoing a huge redecoration project.

Whilst it is cold and wintery outside, there is no better way to give your home a seasonal makeover than by creating a cosy winter retreat. Even on a budget, there isn’t any reason as to why you shouldn’t inject a little bit of winter sparkle into your home with a few finishing touches. With a few changes to the home décor and furnishings, a Christmas wonderland theme will last all season long.

Firstly, you will need to plan which elements of your home you wish to give the most attention to. Maybe your furniture and curtains could do with an update? Or is your flooring and paintwork scuffed and in need of a refresh? Once you have established where you are going to spend the majority of your time and money, then you can focus on creating the perfect winter scene.

Update Your Furnishings

Dated patterns and dark colours may be having an impact on your living areas. Christmas is the time for cosiness and warmth, so it is essential for your living room to mirror those themes. When shopping for new furniture and furnishings, look for a combination of neutral tones and warm, rich colours.

Have a look at the latest trends and styles, as you will be able to use these throughout the rest of the year as well. Contemporary furniture pieces and big chunky knits are all big at the moment and can be included in your winter wonderland theme, as well as in other parts of your home after the festivities are over.

Revamp Your Lighting

There is no need to spend hundreds of pounds on new festive lighting for your transformation. Invest in some fairy lights to add some magic to your home – lights aren’t only for the transformation of the Christmas tree! A few lights wrapped around your bannister or door frame will create a beautiful look that takes just seconds to do.

You might also want to look at some new seasonal candles and home fragrances as well. Scents such as orange and cinnamon are an easy way to make your home smell beautifully festive and create a cosy atmosphere to relax in during the evenings.

Bring The Outside In

Christmas isn’t Christmas without some greenery, but you don’t need to commit to buying a real tree. If you do want to add some fresh greenery into your home, then why not have a go at creating your own festive wreath or garlands? They make beautiful decorations for around your home and will add an uplifting, natural scent. You could use sprigs of holly to decorate your table with or mantelpiece with the addition of some beautiful winter flowers, such as poinsettias.

Christmas doesn’t have to break the bank. Just a few of these ideas will bring your home to life – making your festive season full of joy.
